Established on 8th February 1918, IvaneJavakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) is a public research university in Tbilisi, Georgia. TSU is the oldest university in Georgia and the Caucasus region. The main founder of the university was a Georgian historian and academician, IvaneJavakhishvili alongside several scientists including Giorgi Akhvlediani, ShalvaNutsubidze, Dimitri Uznadze, and GrigolTsereteli. It was the first and the only educational body of this type in Caucasus Region by that time.
According to the U.S. News & World Report university rankings, TSU is ranked 359th in the world.TSU has been recognised by WHO/MCI/UNESCO.
Today the number of professors in TSU amounts to 3275, including 55 academicians and corresponding member of the academy, 595 professors and doctors, 1246 assistant professors and candidates of sciences. Over 35 thousand students are studying at the University and its eight regional branches.
With no central campus, the university buildings are spread over the city. The oldest building is where the administration of the university is seated, while the Pantheon of Tbilisi State University is one of the university's most important cultural and historical places.The university has 60 scientific-research laboratories and centres, a scientific library (with 3,700,000 books and periodicals), seven museums, publishing house and printing press.
Georgian National University provides Accommodation facility to the students on Private and Public Hostels. These hostels are equipped with proper bedding, study table with lamp, bookshelf, a kitchen, bathroom, etc.
